BioI got involved in fandom in the early 70s (the nice man at Foyles pointed me in the direction of Dark They Were And Golden Eyed in Berwick street when I was looking for a copy of Stormbringer, having found Elric sitting at the bottom of an imported remaindered Lin Carter anthology in Woolworths. DTW&GE sold fanzines (I still have copies of Anduril and Maya somewhere), and advertised the BFS and the London Tun meetings - which is how I ended up on the BFS committee (when I started using Ina MacAllan as a review pseudonym) and involved with London fandom generally. I spent a lot of the 70s in Soho - the Marquee Club was in adjacent Wardour Street. Then a letter to Radio Times got me involved in Blake's Seven fandom, and the LPF, and writing and publishing fanfic zines, and the Hatstand circuit (where I used Oriole (Alma Throckmorton) as a pseudonym, hence the lj title). And I've sort of run media-fandom parallel to my SF/Fantasy activity (with a minor excursion into the Richard III Society, and Archers fandom (for which I revived 'Inamac') - not to mention the cat and dog fancies). Oh, and filk. All of which explains (but does not excuse) the size and diversity of my f-list. Someday I'll put together a bibliography - in the meantime the current obsession, Pottersmut and related fangurl squee, has been moved over to my IJ: ((Inamac's Fic)
I'm a retired Civil Servant who lives in Chigwell with Lil Shepherd and far too many cats (which we breed). Namely:
The Singapuras:
Casino surviving brother of our first Singapura pair, born 23 November 1995, (so they should have been given Dr Who names, if we’d realised.)
(Grand Premier Inazuma Heslet) Quillan aka ‘The Villain’, born 27 July 2001 (and therefore old enough to know better).
Zara (Champion Catomine Classical Cantata) the new girl, born 7 June 2005 and intended to be our new breeding queen - if she ever co-operates with our chosen tomcat…
Flash (Valisa Flashing Blade) born 17 March 2007, our new tomkitten and destined to be a stud cat.
The Oriental Mafia:
(Champion Onapromise) Pyanfar Caramel spotty tabby, senior queen, general bosscat, and mother of:
Xolo (Inazuma Xolocolat), a chocolate spotty tabby girl, and her half-brother
Ross (Inazuma Mysteryos Stranger) a gigantic caramel boy who is soft as butter, born on 16 January 2003 (though it seems like yesterday), and finally,
Kurt (Inazuma Nightcrawler) so called because all our Havana kittens have been named after X men.
In Memoriam:
Kerowyn (or Grand Premier Duberville Purcilla Andrez) our foundation queen, 15 Sept 1999 - 12 April 2007 - RIP Quillan's Mum.
